Amazing Leader Vs. Loathsome Boss: Which One Are You?

Amazing Leader Vs. Loathsome Boss: Which One Are You?

Is there any difference between a person who is a Boss and a person who is a Leader?

Yes! A boss is a person whose leadership strategies are all about command and control, while a leader is an individual who possesses the ability to influence and inspire others towards accomplishing goals.

Let’s find out who is what –

To start, if I’m saying ‘Boss,’ I’m talking about the individual who is in charge of the employee or an organization. And for ‘leader,’ I’m talking about who don’t command but inspire others. The real difference has nothing to do with your title or position, as it is all about the quality of work and your efforts. Many bosses are not leaders, and many leaders do so much without a title of authority. Leadership is a practice where you master the skills to lead effectively, and you can make a positive change and influence the people around you even without the title of ‘bossy.’

Work of Style

Bosses determine success by a title position they acquire or practice hierarchy in the business. A boss’s management style is very rigid as there is no nuance, no ability to see different sides of an issue or any project. On the other hand, leaders know that by listening actively to their team, they will be more likely to recognize patterns that emerge, address unspoken concerns that may exist, and provide the clarity of work in a positive attitude.

The bond, among others

Bosses want to be the dominant force in the office and tend to “manage their employees through intimidation and fear. In contrast, a leader grows the confidence and passion from within you to build self-accountability. Leaders always teach you and explain to you how to do it.

Concept of I and We

The boss says, “I’m in charge,” “I’ve decided this,” “I expect that,” there is always ‘I’ in the statement which builds the sense of power and control on others, and on another side, there is always a ‘we’ in the statement of hardworking leader.

Way to success

A boss gets pleasure from being recognized for doing a great job. Leaders get enjoyment out of seeing others rewarded for the fantastic results of their passion. A leader tries to each individual to attain success in minor to major projects, and if people do not succeed, the leaders have failed in both their minds and hearts.

Ways to manage work pressure

Bosses have a “top-down” way of doing things and controlling their team rather than establishing trust and inspiration. It’s the boss’s way or the highway, and in such a work environment, co-workers can’t deal with it and continue their work in a peaceful environment which results in a quality of work. Leaders are keen listeners because they know that team will be more likely to recognize patterns that emerge in any project, address unspoken concerns that may exist, and provide the clarity to help their team do their best work.

Power of control

It’s a tendency who want to control others’ activities. Especially in uncertain situations, we seek certainty. The boss who hates uncertainty will adopt controlling behaviors to hold up the power. They’ll typically micromanage situations and put pressure on their team. On different sides, leaders try to listen to their employees and know that they’re being heard. Leaders always care about the criticisms, opinions, and ideas of their team members. They encourage their team to be expressive without fear of criticism or judgment, resulting in a better performance card.

The question is, is a complex work situation, what a team requires a boss or a leader to resolve the problem, as different industries, organizations, and teams require different management styles for workflow. Some teams need a boss, and others need a leader and may require one in different situations. Command and control leadership is necessary for high-stress, high-risk situations as there is no time to reach a consensus, lives are on the line, and decisive options need to be chosen. In many cases, individuals and teams tend to respond better. Be more engaging, motivated, and productive when the one in charge is a leader with good soft skills.
