In my role as an HR manager, I rely on ChatGPT for many tasks. Lately, I have realised the importance of prompt engineering in the future and have grown fascinated by this skill. However, being a non-technical person and having not studied computers since my 10th standard, I am uncertain about how to pursue my interest in prompt engineering. Could you please provide some guidance on how to study prompt engineering as a non-technical person, given my limited background in computer studies?

I’m happy to hear that you’re interested in prompt engineering, and I want you to know that non-technical people can also pursue this field. One of the first steps you can take is to learn the basics of programming. While you don’t have to be an expert programmer, having some coding knowledge can be beneficial when studying prompt engineering. You can find several free online resources to learn coding, including Codecademy and Khan Academy. It is recommended to start with Python, which is a beginner-friendly language and widely used in the field of AI.

I concur with your statement. Prompt engineering requires the creation of prompts or inputs to produce desired outputs from AI models. Hence, it is crucial to have a fundamental comprehension of AI concepts such as machine learning, deep learning, and neural networks. You can access free online courses on platforms like Coursera and edX to deepen your knowledge in these areas. Familiarity with these topics can simplify your journey in pursuing a career in prompt engineering.

Moreover, you may also want to practice with open-source tools to enhance your proficiency in prompt engineering. There are numerous open-source tools at your disposal, which you can use to experiment with the field. GPT-3, GPT-2, and OpenAI Codex are among the widely used tools. You can utilize these tools to create prompts, generate outputs, and evaluate their performance.
