I am a recent graduate who has embarked on a career as an HR manager in a well-regarded company. I have been working in this role for four months now. Regrettably, I am facing some challenges when it comes to recruiting and hiring candidates. Although I genuinely enjoy engaging with people and establishing meaningful connections, I am experiencing an unexpected aversion to making phone calls. This change in attitude has caused me to become somewhat brusque, and it is significantly impacting my professional life. I would greatly appreciate any assistance or advice in resolving this issue.

Transitioning into a new role can bring unexpected challenges, and it’s great that you’re seeking assistance to address your aversion to making phone calls as an HR manager. To resolve this issue, identify the underlying reasons behind your aversion. It could be anxiety, fear of rejection, lack of confidence, or discomfort with phone conversations. Understanding the root cause will help you address the problem more effectively.

Indeed, shifting your perspective on phone calls is crucial. Instead of dwelling on potential negatives, remember the value and impact you can create through meaningful conversations. Embrace the opportunity to connect with candidates, understand their qualifications, and assess their fit for the organization.

Additionally, discussing your challenges with a trusted colleague or mentor can provide valuable guidance and support. They may share insights from their experiences or offer constructive feedback to help you enhance your communication style.

Prioritizing self-care is crucial for managing stress and anxiety related to making phone calls. Engage in activities that promote relaxation, such as exercise, meditation, or hobbies, as taking care of your well-being will positively impact your overall confidence and performance. Remember that overcoming this aversion will require time and patience, so be compassionate towards yourself during the process and celebrate even the least progress. With dedication and practice, you can gradually regain your comfort and confidence in making phone calls, ultimately enhancing your effectiveness as an HR manager.
